Ever since we learned what Terminus was all about, fans have been itching to see Rick (Andrew Jackson) dole out a dose of justice his way and cut down ring leader Gareth (Andrew J. West). This week he was taken out to the delight of all!
Last week the episode ended with Gareth and his brood of cannibals chomping on Bob's (Lawrence Gillian, Jr.) leg after taking him from the church. The gang realizes he's missing, along with Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride), which sent alarm bells ringing! As Rick and company scramble to figure out what happened, they confront Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam), suspicious he has something to do with the disappearances. In a shocking revelation, the good father finally comes clean. Several of the town's resident were holed up at the church with their families when Walkers made their way inside! In a horrifying account, Gabriel describes how they were overtaken, with victims screaming his name for help! He was the sole survivor and is having a difficult time living with what happened. If only he had locked the church doors that fateful night it might not have happened. After hearing the gruesome story, all hands were on deck to figure out what happened to their comrades.
Meanwhile, Gareth takes great pleasure in chowing down Bob's leg in front of him, as he attempts to have a "normal" dinner conversation with his prey. After rambling on, Bob begins to laugh uncontrollably to Gareth's dislike, and demands to know what is so funny? Bob clues him in on the fact they had just eaten tainted "meat"...he was bitten at the food bank! Gareth's
cohorts are sickened as they realize their dinner might cause them to die! Of course Gareth isn't concerned, "We boiled it."

At the church, Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) is done dealing with the Terminus cannibals and decides he's taking his small crew to DC to find a cure. However he requests that Glen (Steven Yuen) and Maggie (Lauren Cohen) go with them. Rick, Sasha (Sonequa Martin) and company want to finally put an end to Gareth and refuse to leave until they are dealt with. As they continue to debate, suddenly Bob reappears on the front lawn! They haul him into the church, where in a sea of tears, he admits he was bitten by Walkers. All are ready to take down Gareth, especially after eating their own! Ultimately Abraham and Rick come to an agreement- he'll stay until noon, then he's heading to DC with his group.
After Rick leaves the church, it doesn't take but a moment or two before Gareth and his savage group enter, hell-bent on taking them down for a nice breakfast! The gang is hidden among the dark corners of the church as they silently watch Gareth attempt to coax them out from behind one of two closed doors. Suddenly, out of the darkest a shot rings out and two of the cannibals hit the ground as Rick emerges and takes control of the situation! In a role reversal reminiscent of their first meeting, Rick orders Gareth to kneel before him. Though the cannibal attempts to talk his way out of it, Rick takes immense pleasure in delivering the blow to end this chapter!
Later, Michonne (Danai Gurir) finds her sword and the warrior we love seeps back into her eyes.
In the closing moments, Abraham and his group, which includes Glenn and Maggie, drive off on their quest to DC to hopefully find out if there is a cure.
This week's episode was another intense emotional one, especially saying goodbye to Bob, which was heartbreaking to watch. One of the best moments was during the opening scenes when Bob began laughing at Gareth for eating his Walker infected body and seeing the panic among the cannibals. It was sort of poetic justice, which adds
d a light moment within a very tragic one.

In the end, Gareth and his crew deserved what they got and I found it very poignant as he knelt before Rick, begging to free him much like Rick had done in Terminus. Loved that parallel. If you're a hardcore fan, I'm sure you noticed as I did, the fact that Rick killed Gareth with the red-handled machete as promised in the premiere episode when he vowed to do just that! It was a sweet symphony of justice!
I was a little disappointed we didn't see Daryl and Carol this week, as they make their way towards finding Beth (Emily Kinney). Fans are anxiously awaiting to hear her story-- who has her and what is she going through? Looks like next week we finally get the answers! In the sneak peek on The Talking Dead, Beth awakens in what appears to be a city, though definitely with signs of the apocalypse aftermath. My guess is she's in DC, hopefully about to be rescued by Daryl and Carol. Producers indicated after the S5 premiere that we'll see the full story in episodes four and five.
Another touching scene was the moment that Tyreese made the decision to deliver the final execution after Bob died. He's been sort of hiding
in the background, not willing to kill anything as he plays babysitter to Judith. I think it was a very pivotal moment for the character that he takes the burden from Sasha, effectively sparing her the guilt of having to do it. It's clear though he has strong feelings about killing in this new world of survival, there is a moment when a mercy killing is necessary. Question is, how will this affect him and will it change how he thinks moving forward? Only time will tell.

This week Gareth himself, Andrew J. West was a surprise special guest on The Talking Dead, along with 24's Mary Lynn Rajskub and Guns 'n Roses guitarist, Slash!
According to West, producers told him he would be killed by the third episode this season. He explained when he auditioned for the role in S4, they clued him in on the cannibalism aspect of his role. Though he thought it was only for one episode, he was happy to receive a call asking him to return for S5. In West's view of the character, he feels that Gareth became a leader, with an unwavering philosophy of what it takes to live in this new world. In his mind it's eat or be eaten. In contrast, Rick is constantly reevaluating during the series, who can he trust, how do deal with each situation, etc... Though some have compared Gareth with "The Governor", West believes Gareth is much more set on what his code of living is. Interestingly, West describes how nice and wonderful it was working with Andrew Lincoln, however, once he's in character it's a bit scary and intense. He's there in the moment and there is an air of realism to the scene, especially during his final scene when Rick kills Gareth.
Fans poured in with comments for West with regards to Gareth's demise, tweeting, "Why do I find Gareth strangely attractive?", "If Gareth dies we riot", "Why does Gareth have to be so hot, yet such a cannibal, those two can't mix". I have to agree that while Gareth is definitely attractive, the cannibalism is a deal breaker! LOL
