Legend has it that in the mid-sixteenth century, a rat-trapper instead of luring away mice, lured away the children of the town as retribution after non-payment of his services, using his magical flute. While most depict the man looking more like "the joker", layered in multi-colored clothing, it's safe to say that Sleepy's Pied Piper (Ryan Gray)
takes on a more darker, terrifying form thanks to the ingenious wardrobe department!

***MINOR SPOILERS***
The episode is Ichabbie heavy, with no sign of Katrina (Katia Winter), Abraham (Neal Jackson) or Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood), only offering a couple of scenes dedicated to Henry (John Noble) and Captain Irving (Orlando Jones), who finally realizes what happened-- Moloch has his soul! Though the usual suspects are MIA, our self-serving bounty hunter Hawley (Matt Barr) is on hand and agrees to help Ichabbie after a 10 year-old child goes missing. Of course his services won't be free and our dynamic duo make a bargain, although Crane's (Tom Mison) distaste for the deal is apparent. It's not surprising that Crane's growing disdain for the greedy artifacts monger grows stronger with each encounter and Hawley's nicknames for Ichabod are definitely designed to irritate him. However by the end of the episode, to Crane's delight, Abbie (Nichole Beharie) does something that clues Hawley in that Ichabbie
is not on his side!
Some of the lighter moments include a driving lesson-- yes our Ichabod is learning to harness 300 horses at the touch of the foot- his lead foot! Tom Mison actually mentioned filming the driving lesson when I spoke to him last summer and said he was proud of the scene. Not only is our hero getting accustomed to the road, but he's found one of 21st centuries greatest indulgence...coffee! Will he learn the highs and lows of caffeine crashes as the season continues? We'll have to stay tuned!
Though still frustrated and growing more so with every case having to circumvent Sheriff Reyes, the duo are able to unravel the cause of the disappearance and reason for the curse placed upon this particular family.
One of the scenes I love had Ichabod putting earplugs in his ears so he couldn't hear the Piper's thunderous melody. Once the earplugs go in, the audience only hears what Ichabod would-- his heart beating. It's a brilliantly filmed moment. Although Ichabod's Nemesis almost gets the better of him, our incredibly strong, kick ass "Lieftenent" saves the day like a true warrior!
