'Sleepy Hollow': Fans Clamor For "Ichabbie" In Season 3

The chemistry between Sleepy Hollow‘s Tom Mison (Ichabod Crane) and Nicole Beharie (Abbie Mills) is unmistakable, whether you see them in person or in character on the screen.  They just have a natural connection, a spark that makes the audience squeal with delight at every sideways glance, touch, and epic hug.  It was never as evident as during the "Miharie" (smush name for Tom and Nikki) panel at DragonCon earlier this month.  It's like they have their own little language and with a glance, each knows what the other is saying, no words necessary!

Most of you that know me are aware I’m an “Ichabbie” (smush name for Ichabod and Abbie) fan and hopes are high that they will eventually get together.  Many Sleepyheads are concerned this season thanks to the addition of Ichabod's ex-girlfriend, sexy Betsy Ross (Nikki Reed) and obvious attraction Abbie's FBI assistant has for Ichabod.  I mean let's face it, who wouldn't be right? The man is looking better than ever in his new 21st century haircut!

In speaking with fans on social media, many watch each episode looking for signs that feelings run deep between the two Witnesses, a flame that has been there since day one. The little special moments that only they exchange, their trust in each other and fact that one would die for the other if necessary.  It's a bond unique to them.  There is no other person that either could be involved with, that would ever be as rooted and timeless as Ichabod and Abbie's connection.  No one. Not Betsy Ross, not Agent Reynolds (Lance Gross).  It is a journey that only our two Witnesses can take together. It's their destiny.

The question is, does TPTB know what they have with these two characters?  Will they repeat last years' debacle and deny the obvious outcry that our Ichabbie up their relationship a notch? I believe in Ichabbie and I believe in our evil geniuses (aka) Sleepy Hollow writers. Any fan of television shows similar to this, knows it's always about the couple!  Bones, Castle, The X-Files, Moonlighting are the first series that comes to mind.  All of them have two leads that eventually get together.  Some argue once the fun of the anticipation or chase is over, fans lose interest. I beg to differ and feel that there is enough danger, intrigue, excitment to keep our dynamic duo together no matter what they face.

With only four days until the big October 1 premiere, conversations on twitter have revved up as speculation of what's in store for Ichabod and Abbie continues. They've had their ups and downs in season two, that's for sure, but I think the Executive Producers and writers have a solid chapter in the Sleepy Hollow saga planned. It's evident in the premiere episode, as the foundation of the story is beautifully laid out at the very beginning.

With so much anxiety and rampant speculation as to if and when Ichabod and Abbie will get together, here's a little reminder, my top 11 Ichabbie Moments that have hinted their relationship is much more than just "Witness partners" and "friends''...

11. Many of us on twitter consistently discuss Ichabod's swoon-worthy bow to our girl in Sin Eater  and we all wonder could there really be a man out there that still has some old-world courtship manners in the 21st century? It was one of the cutest moments of season 1 and I never tire of seeing it.  It's one of the things that makes Ichabod so charming and I loved the flirty smile Abbie flashes.  Too adorable for words!

10. Abbie's cell phone password is Ichabod's birthday!  Come on now ladies, how many of us use our husband/boyfriend's info to safeguard our phones or other important accounts?  That was such a sweet reveal and of course, Ichabod's trust in Abbie to actually try it, then his realization she was telling the truth was epic.  Our Ichabbie connection exists no matter where they are- in 2015, 1781 or anywhere in the universe!

9. Abbie's hug in "Tempus Fugit"!  I loved that entire scene, how she asked that he call her "Lieftentant", then embracing him, clearly afraid if their plan didn't work she may never see him again.  Tom Mison said during the commentary on the DVD that the squeeze she gives him was unexpected. His expression of confusion was priceless, "Is this...common place in 2015?", Abbie: "Yeah. We hug it out." Too cutest for words! ♥

8. The duo have had their ups and downs trying to “redefine” their role as Witnesses, and in doing so, the communication between them sort of breaks down.  Of course this is a symptom of something much bigger than neither are willing to deal with just yet...their deepening feelings for each other.  In “Pittura Infamante,” Abbie, though appearing to be supportive as Ichabod readies for his “date” with Katrina, points out once again that Katrina has continually undermined their mission. The sadness in her voice and look on her face when she suggests he not go out was unmistakable.

7. “Kali Yuga” allows us to see that look of love as they eye each other during Karaoke. Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood), who I believe knows Ichabod and Abbie have feelings for one another, presses
both, though neither is about to admit anything. It is nice seeing the sisters talk during Karaoke, as well as later at the pawn shop, “He’s trying to work things out with his witch wife.” Oh, Abbie, you’re just waiting in the wings aren’t you?  After working apart for awhile and Ichabod learning Abbie kept the charm Rebel Angel Orion gave her, they are trapped in a vault at the Knox Estate trying to help Hawley.  The two hash things out, and finally appear to be on the same page again.  In a cutest Ichabbie moment, the two cement their new found bond by singing a duet to “Proud Mary.”

6. In “Heartless”, an obviously jealous Ichabod is called out by a Succubus! The episode is about a Siren (Caroline Ford) that Henry (John Noble) conjures to “feed” baby Moloch. Fast forward to Abbie, who seeks out Hawley’s help in identifying strange marks on their latest victim. Though he has designs on her, she doesn’t, and while back at the cabin talking to Ichabod, she flirts, putting her hand on his leg.  He notices! Of course the quick moment is interrupted by Katrina! Dammit! But things become clearer for our 18th Century traveler after Hawley is attacked and he realizes the "Privateer" has feelings for “Lieuftenant.” I love the scene in the car in which Ichabod keeps looking at her sideways, trying to figure a way to bring up the subject. I think it’s safe to say he is happy to hear she isn’t planning to start anything with the reprobate! Next Ichabod and Hawley are on a mission to find the Siren at the hip nightclub "Twerk".  After seeing the brut’s wandering eye, Ichabod questions his intentions with Abbie.  Of course being a 21st century man, Hawley refuses to discuss it, least of all with Ichabod! I love when the Succubus finally has a face to face conversation with Ichabod, “I sense your desire, it burns strong though you try so hard to hide it.” Priceless.

5. In “Weeping Lady,” Mary Wells (Heather Lind, Turn)  goes after Caroline (Laura Spencer), who has a crush on Ichabod, nearly kills Abbie who has unspoken feelings for him, and then goes after Katrina, his wife. Abbie almost becomes her second victim, dragged into a watery portal while at the library. A panicked Ichabod finally pulls her out but it’s too late! She’s not breathing and our 18th Century genius doesn’t know CPR! “No, no, no, no Abbie!” He really believes he’s lost her as he helplessly watches Hawley (Matt Barr) administer CPR.

4. One of the moments I always think back on, is when Abbie decided to stay in Purgatory so Ichabod could take Katrina, in hopes of stopping the Horseman of War.  The embrace he gives her didn't go unnoticed by his "witch wife", that's for sure!  "Remember our bond.  I'll come back to you." It was such a sweet, important moment.  The trust between Ichabod and Abbie cemented once again.

3. In Sin Eater, there several special moments- when Abbie realizes Ichabod has been kidnapped you can see the panic in her eyes.  Later, as she talks to Jenny about him, even she points out "you really care about this guy".  Yes she does!  But the moment that I think all Sleepyheads swooned over, was the touching scene where Abbie tries to talk Ichabod out of taking the poison! She's a mess at thought of losing him, "There's another way! There's always another way!" Ichabod: "Abbie!" Tears well in her eyes, "That's the first time you've called me Abbie."  My little heart melted!  Luckily our supposed hero Henry Parrish (John Noble) saves him, effectively separating Ichabod from the Horseman of Death and we see the first Ichabbie hug.  It was adorable! Clearly Abbie was shaken.

2.  All season Katrina (Katia Winter) was a thorn in Ichabod's (and Sleepyhead's) side.  Ichabod's lack of focus where his Witness duties were concerned thanks to learning of the numerous lies Katrina told him; then dealing with his Horseman of War son Henry, finally came to a head in "Tempus Fugit".  Discussion on social media progressed to the point that most fans felt Ichabod needed to make a clear choice between his duplicitous wife Katrina and partner, Abbie (whom Tom Mison says Ichabod "is completely in love with her").  I'll never forget asking Tom about what we could expect for the finale.  All he said was "Brace yourselves."  He was right!  After so much Crane family drama, seeing that Katrina was about to kill Abbie, Ichabod did what he had to do to protect our girl and killed his own wife! I gotta say I did not think they were going to kill her. I just figured she'd remain on the dark side of the force.  Every time I watch that scene, as Ichabod falls to the floor, Katrina in his arms, then seeing her disintegrate into the abyss and how he crumbles, was heartbreaking.  Poor Ichabod! But we all rejoiced that the choice was finally made to save Abbie, where his heart's destiny lies.

 1.  While trapped six feet under, Ichabod attempts to leave a video message for Abbie, and, pointedly, not his wife Katrina. But undoubtedly, the epic hug in “This Is War”, is the #1 Ichabbie Moment that no matter if you ship them or not, fans talk about! Abbie contacts Ichabod while in Purgatory. The ‘hug heard ’round the world’ clearly depicts how much they care for each other, as neither seems to want to let it end, letting it go on for a long moment.  It is the one scene that really does depict exactly how they feel and is most definitely the best Ichabbie Moment of the series thus far!
