town-that-loves-nerds three days ago, in preparation for the special edition episodes which will be aired Wednesday-Saturday July 8-11, from the Spreckles Theatre in the heart of the Gaslamp District.
Fans were on hand yesterday afternoon to catch a glimpse of the popular host, as well as his guests, Lord of the Rings 'Frodo Bagans' Elijah Woods and The Talking Dead's/Nerdist geek extraordinaire, Chris Hardwick, who has made being a nerd a cool thing! This marks the beginning of a slew of headliners headed to participate in this much-awaited event, including the casts of The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and the Hunger Games.
I was able to bear witness to the quirky, doesn't-take-itself-too-seriously show and dedicated crew, who are the geniuses behind the scenes. It was interesting to see the inner-workings of a late night talk show and exactly what it entails. Believe me, they don't call it the "art of editing" for nothing!
First the audience was warmed up, with about ten people snagged to participate in a chance to win some swag. Little did they know they'd be dancing to Sir Mixalot's hit "I Got Big Buts" and N'Sync's "Bye Bye Bye"! It was hilarious! Needless to say some of these Con-ers had some pretty risky moves!
As O'Brien took the stage, he was welcomed with a thunderous applause as fans rallied, clearly showing their love and support. Of course Conan's opening monologue was mostly Comic Con-centric and there were a couple of moments done throughout the show in classic Conan style! A surprise guest in the form of Seth Green arrived on the scene for a little Star Wars duel (can you guess who won?) and Golem was up to his old tricks again, as Woods presented a "show and tell".
The audience was electric, eager to participate in a couple of "re-do's" including audio and a skit involving Shamu the Whale, for the sake of production! Though they asked us to stay a little longer, no one complained as Conan belted out a rendition of Radiohead's "Creep"! If that doesn't say Comic Con, I don't know what does! LOL
No Comic Con event is complete without a little swag! Each member of the audience was given a SDCC Exclusive Pop Conan to add to their valuable collections. In the end, I encourage everyone to take time and watch this special edition week of Conan O'Brien.
